Top 3 New Responsive Web Design Applications

Top 3 New Responsive Web Design Applications
I remember the time when about 3 years ago, I wrote my first article regarding responsive design. At that time, RWD (responsive web design), was just a trend/new wave. Today this is a reality and standard that should not be taken lightly. Raising number of mobile Internet users is growing everyday. At this article our team will review few responsive web design / prototyping design tools that are extremely powerful and can save a lot of time coding HTML and CSS. I am not quite sure that I can say that those are WYSYWIG tools, as I think here we should use a different term – probably visual RWD editors. I think another term can also be introduced – web design in browser, again new standard for good and fast prototyping and web coding. Webflow Quite tidy and very powerful visual editor and prototyping application that offer almost everything that you need. You can create a free account at https://webflow.com/ and start your new project straight away. There are also several templates for quick start, but there is an option to start new project with blank template.  As listed on their website, here are some of the notable features - CSS3 Styles,...

What the Government Shutdown Meant for National Cyber Security

What the Government Shutdown Meant for National Cyber Security
The United States Federal Government Shutdown of 2013 lasted for approximately half a month. During that time, citizens of the United States were generally only inconvenienced in that they were forced to constantly hear about the government shutdown from alarmist news agencies. However, while the nation’s military was exempt from the shut down in order to be able to better protect our country’s interests, a different and much more vulnerable front may have been left undefended: or nation’s cyber security. And although the shutdown may have been temporarily resolved with the signing of a bill on the 16th of October, the possibility of future shutdowns might mean that we could be placed in danger once again. Cyber security is an issue with which most Americans have very little familiarity. At most, we generally tend to keep our own personal virus protection software up to date. Beyond that, we hardly consider the dangers. However, when it comes to national security, our country can’t afford to pay a passive role. There is no software secure enough or all-encompassing enough to be able to protect the United States’ assets from the constant attacks from hackers, both foreign and domestic. Thus, it is imperative that...

Are you are trying real hard to make your Facebook business page engage more audience or find potential customers from your LinkedIn network? But it isn’t yielding desired results. It is high time you take some steps to make social media work to your advantage. Here are a few simple tips to help achieve better results from your social media efforts.  Tip 1 Add the call to action on the cover photo and add the link of your website to the short description on your Facebook business page. The good news is that Facebook has removed the limit on the text you can put in on the cover photo. And it is time you make use of this. You can do it in a number of ways: Add a link on the cover photo itself, just as Adidas does Add a link in the description of the photo, just as Unbounce does Add a call to action that directs to specific portion of content Another trick is to insert the website link in the brief description just below the cover photo. Make Your Content Byte

Make Your Content Byte
Despite the abundance of glamorous tech products advertised on billboards, websites, and television, creating content for your tech company’s blog or social media outlet presents a challenge. How do you make your posts shine among the plethora of blogs regurgitating similar information? These tips will help your content stand out and will help grow your audience. 1. Include interactive elements What’s better than a diagram explaining the genius behind a tech product? A diagram that we can play with. Adding interactive elements is a great way to engage an audience because it not only makes an explanation easier, but it also puts the reader in control of his or her experience. Google Maps, for example, allows users to create their own customized maps. Interactivity doesn’t even have to be this complicated; something as a simple as a poll will help keep your audience engaged with your content. 2. Share your passion Feeling geeky about your excitement over the release of the latest Intel chipset? Let your nerd flag fly and post about it. Chances are your audience is just as thrilled as you are, so share the excitement and let your readers know that you care about the same things they...

What kind of Backlinks Google Likes

What kind of Backlinks Google Likes
The word back link is used to define an incoming link from one website to another. A link on website A points to website B, and website B refers to it as a back link. Backlinks are used in search engine optimization (SEO) as a way of determining the popularity of a web page.  If a large number of websites link to a page, that affects the page’s ranking in search results.     Websites may use various SEO techniques to increase the number of backlinks pointing to their website. Some methods, such as link baiting, require quite a bit of planning to be successful. Some websites accidentally get involved in link baiting, for example, websites that are the first with a piece of breaking news about a well-known celebrity. When a link bait happens, many other websites link to the baiting website because it contains information of great interest to a huge number of people.   Having said that, some forms of link baiting are objected to by Google algorithms and are not successful at increasing the ranking of web pages involved. So what kinds of back links DOES Google like? It prefers “quality back links”.   A quality...

Things to Keep in Mind before Starting your AdWords Campaign

Things to Keep in Mind before Starting your AdWords Campaign
Google AdWords adheres benefit the main way in which Google earns revenue from visitors to its search sites. Businesses pay to have adverts placed near specific search results using criteria that they define at the start of an online advertising campaign.  The AdWords program allows local, national, and international ad exposure. In Google help information about AdWords, it states: “The following data always goes into showing relevant ads to you: Your location (based on your computer's IP address), your language, the time of day and which Google country domain you used (for example, Google.com or Google.co.uk).” – Source google.com You can take some of these factors into account when choosing who should see your adverts and when they are displayed. You could restrict adverts so they only appear to people who are within driving distance of your store. Adword adverts can be paid for when an user clicks on an advert.  This is known as “pay-per-click”. Alternately, adverts can be paid for based on the number of times an advert is displayed. This is a “cost per thousand” impressions (abbreviated to CPM or “cost per mille”).  The cost of an advert depends on several factors, including the expected frequency it will...

5 Cyber Security Threats You Aren’t Considering

5 Cyber Security Threats You Aren’t Considering
Cyber threats used to consist of annoying viruses or college-aged hackers looking for a challenge, but today cyberthreats are a real danger to businesses, governments and other organizations. Hackers have grown to be much more sophisticated, from groups hired by nation states, to hackers stealing business secrets for profit. Unfortunately, many organizations continue to be unaware of the danger they face even though any company no matter how big or small could be attacked at any time, and has probably been attacked before. Even those who are aware of the danger and use firewalls and a secure web gateway are often overlooking certain vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit. 1. Physical Access Sometimes organizations will put so much emphasis on protecting the IT system’s firewall from outside attacks that they forget that physical access to the server can give hackers just as much leeway to cause damage. Sometimes getting in is as simple as an employee holding a door open for the person behind them after the employee has entered in the access code. For example, in April of this year thieves broke into Walmart’s video service and stole the hard drives that contained customer data. A huge part of securing the...

The Dilemma With eBook Readers

The Dilemma With eBook Readers
With tablets and 5” smartphones taking large shares of the market, one can easily say that eBook readers are slowly losing popularity among consumers. 150 million smartphone shipments is no small number, especially if this is the value of smartphones shipped in just the third quarter of 2013. Moreover, with the tremendous availability of apps of all kinds, turning a smartphone into just about anything is as easy as downloading and using an app, and this includes eBook reading as well. However, not so many people have given some thought to what eBook readers are capable of despite the stiff competition that they are currently facing. Features of an eBook Reader eBook readers are simply defined by their name. They are devices, almost the size of an iPad, which allow you to read eBooks more conveniently. eBook readers maintain simplicity and ease of use, something which cannot be ignored whenever you’re comparing it to a tablet. Some notable features of an eBook reader include: 1. High Level of Readability This is arguably the biggest advantage of an eBook reader over a tablet. While your tablets and smartphones use LCD screens, some eBook readers have e-ink displays. These displays are non-reflective...

There’s no doubt that cloud computing unleashed countless possibilities in today’s technological world. Email services, cloud storage and virtual computing environments are some of the few examples.   Perhaps, one of the best benefits of the cloud for business organizations is web-based office suite software.   First off, a web-based application is any kind of computer software that you use over the internet through the aid of your web browser. For businesses, using web-based software will free you from having to worry about the technical aspects of installing the software on PCs and maintaining them too. 8 Types of Hackers on the Internet

8 Types of Hackers on the Internet
During its infancy, cybercrime was really more of a novelty than an actual threat. Young hackers would write harmless viruses that would display a funny message or break into supposedly secure systems just to poke around. However, as the internet began to grow throughout the world and change the way that people and organizations interact, those with the propensity and ability began to fully realize the power that they could hold over an increasingly digital world. Today, hackers are anything but harmless. Acting alone or as organized groups, hackers have infiltrated the highest levels of government and defense, cost the United States and its civilians hundreds of billions of dollars, and destroyed countless lives. But what kind of people would dedicate their existence to such endeavors? Well, here’s a quick guide to the different kinds of hackers that operate in the world today. 1. State Sponsored Attackers Perhaps the most dangerous of the modern hacker groups are the state sponsored hackers. These are clandestine groups who are government funded and trained and exist to undermine the nations and countries that they consider to be their political enemies. How Dialogue Moves a Story Or Does It

How Dialogue Moves a Story Or Does It
There are many components to writing a story—plot, conflict, climax, characters, setting, resolution, theme—and the list can go on. Some say there are only five parts that need to be put together for a story, but there are many elements that a writer needs to look at. One of them is my hardest element to implement: Dialogue. Dialogue is something that I have always struggled with for three specific reasons. One, the tone. I mostly write sci-fi and fantasy stories/novels, so to bring a new way of speaking into the mix, it is hard to get into the habit of not adding the normal slang or informal speech into your writing that you use every day in conversation. Example: In my 2013 NaNoWriMo novel, I have stopped myself from writing partial or complete phrases like “this kind of stuff”, but others have made their way in like “give it a try”. It’s hard to write dialogue to sound as if someone else is talking one way when you yourself speak another. This is obviously a piece about writing that I am still learning about, and it should get easier, but it can definitely cause a rift in the flow of...

Is Your Website Putting Visitors to Sleep?

Is Your Website Putting Visitors to Sleep?
Simple web design is big news right now. A simple design looks clean and modern. It also gives users room to breathe and allows them enjoy what they’re looking at. However, some companies are taking the idea of simple too far. As a result, the website looks cold; sterile; and, worst of all, boring. You need to find the perfect balance between contemporary and interesting. If your website has very little activity, perhaps it’s time to look over the design and discover what areas need to be improved in order to inspire a response from your visitors. What Needs to Be Simple   There are some parts of the website that really need to be simple. The menu must be easy to understand and navigate. It’s always a good idea to make sure the menu is in a position on the site where visitors expect to find it. The labels in the menu must also be easy to understand. You may be tempted to come up with some cute and clever titles for pages, but hold back. Each visitor needs to feel confident when they arrive, and this means they need to know what to expect when they click on...
