Technological Growth At Its Best - The Internet Revolution

The phenomenon that we are familiar with as “internet” is now so commonplace and so deeply integrated into our daily lives that to most of us, it does not really seem like a “phenomenon” at all. We take it as naturally as we take so many other real things. It is just like one human seeing another human walking around casually.

However, this phenomenal growth, rather evolution, is not an overnight mantra. It took decades to see internet in its present form, but when we compare that time with the development that took place within that time, it really looks no short than a miracle.

On its way to evolution, internet should be really grateful to aids like web marketing or internet marketing, a phenomenon which really set ablaze the pace of growth of internet by adding more of people’s interest in this domain. It did so by making people realize that internet can be served as a medium to generate substantial amounts of money, and that too, quite conveniently if you play your cards right.

From early 90s onwards, web marketing services, along with the aid of strategies like SEO, helped millions of people to make millions of dollars. This made many people seriously adopt internet, thus populating it more than ever.

To surmise, in about four decades that internet has seen as a reality, it has grown from a simple database that could be used for nothing more than sharing plain data into something as phenomenal as Web 3.0. Well, by now, Web 3.0 has become quite a popular topic and internet seems quite abuzz about it, and quite rightly so, because it is definitely going to lead how internet grows in future. However, for most common web surfers the concept of development of web in terms of Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0 needs a bit of counseling.

Web 1.0

The reality is that before talking about Web 3.0, any new user should be provided with a little basic concept of Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. Web 1.0 is referred collectively as the infancy period of web development when internet was confined to “read-only web”, according to a renowned web expert Berners-Lee. Try to visualize how internet used to share information in its early days; it merely allowed people to view certain type of information displayed by a particular website, not more than that.

Web 2.0

From Web 1.0 internet evolved to Web 2.0. Berners-Lee further describes Web 2.0 as an era when internet offered web users the advancement of “read-write web”. This definitely led them ahead significantly. With the dawn of Web 2.0, people got the liberty of reading as well as writing web content. Data sharing options definitely became a bit wider and flexible. Now, a user could not only read or view web content, but they could interact more with it. The inception of social media could be attributed as a blessing of Web 2.0 technologies. YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, etc can be the prime examples of extended content sharing abilities granted to web surfers through Web 2.0 technologies. The development of internet in Web 2.0 era is greatly indebted to social media optimization element which served this purpose greatly.

Web 3.0

Web 3.0 can be described as “read-write-execute web”, a development perhaps significant than any other single development through the lifespan of internet. This has become possible by combining the concepts of semantic markup and web services. Web service, an application used for computer to computer interaction of any kind, was limited in its capability of understanding the context of the data by itself. Web 3.0, by integrating the concept of semantic markup, which would be the key to develop a mechanism that not only allows data to be presented in human readable form, but would also allow web services to better understand it, is going to make the real difference.

The fact of the matter is that Web 3.0 is a concept that would really add a new dimension of increased mutual interaction of data amongst web services as well as human users, thus taking the whole phenomenon of web surfing to a whole new level.
