What Does Your Future Hold? The CES Show Just Might Have the Answers

There is no doubt that we’re living in a world where technology is increasingly becoming a central focus of our daily lives, often if we like it or not. Many of us have definitely embraced a lot of what modern technology has to offer, especially when it comes to all things digital. The rapid increase in use of smartphones and tablets across the UK has been paralleled by a dramatic rise in e-commerce sales, as people begin to use their mobile devices to make purchases. But our world is changing fast, and the yearly meeting of the tribes, so to speak, is in Las Vegas every January, at tTechnology and Appshe extravaganza known as the Consumer Electronics Show.

The Rise of Alternative Devices

You may have heard that we may someday find our smartphone is a quaint relic of the past. Our beloved tablets may be also. What is appearing on the horizon are smart glasses, devices that actually function like a smartphone or tablet while looking like a pair of glasses. Last year, Google introduced their version, appropriately called Google Glass, but there are competitors. An Israeli company called Lumus showed off their latest creation, the Lumus DK40, which on the outside appears to be similar to Google Glass. The difference is that the Lumus device actually uses optical glass and has small prisms to project their images. Initial reports indicate that it is quite easy to use. It is likely that in the near future, several manufacturers will want to license this groundbreaking technology.

Smart Watches Are Next

Most experts agree that another way we will receive information is through a watch. We’re not quite at the Dick Tracy stage of having a smart phone slapped on our wrist, but there are several devices that work in tandem with a smartphone. One of the most popular applications for these watches is for fitness buffs. They like the fact that they can actually have their activities monitored and tracked by the watch, which communicates information to their smart phone. LG, the giant Korean manufacturer, has entered the fray with their LG Lifeband Touch, which not only tracks any of your fitness routines, but will also alert you to incoming calls, extending its usefulness throughout the day. Chances are, the way things are going we will have fully functional smartphones on our wrist in just a few years.

A Wide Range of Solutions

How about being able to take command of your smartphone by just waving your hands? Up to now, that has been fairly difficult to implement, but a company called Elliptic Labs has shown this year at CES a way to use high-frequency sound to interpret your hand gestures and actually perform the commands on your smartphone. Or how about being able to charge all of your mobile devices by just dropping them into a bowl? Intel showed off a device that does exactly that, using magnetic resonance to charge a wide variety of devices. The technology isn’t quite perfected yet, so you may have to wait a year or two before practically any type of smartphone, tablet or other electronic device can actually be dropped into your bowl when you get home, allowing them all to be charged simultaneously.

Standing out in the Crowd

With all of these new solutions making mobile computing that much easier, every company can expect a lot more potential customers to visit their site. That’s great news, but it also means that every company has to work harder to make sure that these casual visitors become actual buyers. Creating an effective strategy to achieve these results is not necessarily easy, but you can visit co.lab to find a company that can help you implement cutting edge solutions to increase your visibility and sales.
