Marketing and Production: Interview with Business Woman

This interview was with Nicole Russell, a Project Director at a local Long Island production company.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Nicole Russell, and I have been a part of this company for three years. I have lived in Long Island my whole life, and enjoy everything about the production industry.

What exactly does your career entail?

I work with our individual clients that come into our studio. I speak with them about what they are looking for and how they are looking to complete their project. Once the project gets underway, I am the contact for every client every step until its completion.

How did you start?

I started out as a writer at a marketing company. After a few years, I brought my skills to work with a friend and offered my same skills to the company as a freelancer. To learn more about the production industry, I joined the meetings and met with clients. I joined the crew on shoots, and eventually it became my job to handle and communicate with our clients. I was thrilled to become a part of the business instead of only a freelancer. I have been with the company ever since.

What do you love about your job?

I have always enjoyed planning parties whether for friends or family. I feel that being the Project Director for a video production shoot is very much the same. Bigger plans and more to actually plan out, but it is still a lot of fun. It may stress some to run around making sure all plans are in order, but I very much enjoy that part of my job. Juggling multiple plans at once is one of my favorite things.

What do you dislike about your job?

I think the roughest part of my job is when there are multiple productions occurring at once. Not only does that mean multiple plans are running together, but with so many steps, and me being only one person, it makes it difficult to get everything done. Of course, everything always gets done, but there are plenty of long days and late nights when I try to work it all out.

Where do you see yourself in three years time?

Honestly, I plan on staying with this company as long as it will take me. The projects are always new and exciting. From music videos to corporate videos, we do it all. Even now we are working on other ideas to bring to our customers like green screen parties. There is just so much we can do in this industry.

About your company and why you are different? For example, why should someone choose you over your competitors?

We don't just offer video production to our customers. We offer a long list of services from photography, event videography, web design, graphic design, internet presence optimization, press release and blog services, transfers and duplications, and tribute videos.

Any tips you want to share?

Have fun, and enjoy your job. Those are the two most important pieces of advice I can share. Do that, and everything else will fall into place.
