If you've been thinking about creating your own Wordpress site, there's a good chance that you've done your homework. But you can do all the research you want, and you may still not know everything without actually trying it.
This is where a seasoned Wordpress pro like myself comes in to save the day.
Here's you should not do when creating a Wordpress site:
Don't Expect to Make Money
If your sole purpose for creating a new website with help from Wordpress is the get rich quick, you should try something else.
Sure, you can definitely get some nice money out of it with ads eventually, but it takes awhile. Try thinking about two years or more to start making serious money from your website.
If you're cool with that reality, keep reading.
Don't Use Free Themes
Free themes are terrible. Some of them may look okay, but they're still awful.
You know why? Because they look like carbon copies of a generic Wordpress site. Your goal here is to make sure your site DOESN'T look like a Wordpress site. By using a free theme, you also lack the functionality you get from premium themes. It's only $30 or so, so don't cheap out. Your site will be an important part of your life.
Don't Use a Free Wordpress Site Domain
Creating a site that is something like blahblah.wordpress.com looks terrible. It also looks amateurish. It also tells your readers that you're too cheap to pay $6 a month and $10 a year for domain and server hosting. It also tells your readers that you're probably just doing this as a hobby rather than as a serious job. Whenever I see one, I immediately exit. I'm not the only one.
Don't do it. It's not worth it.
These three things will help you succeed. Heed my warnings!
