One of the most popular ways to boost the rankings of your website in the popular search engines is by using article marketing. However, in the past couple of months more and more SEO experts claim that this practice is long gone due to the Google Panda Update and also that it can’t actually help you to improve your website’s positions at all.
When you search Google for article marketing, you will easily find hundreds of interviews given by the industry experts, where they claim that this practice will only lead to negative results for your website.
Working with some of the leading SEO experts in the industry for the past 5 years allowed me to try wide variety of link building techniques and see what results each one of them brings. This included article marketing as well, so in the next couple of lines I would like to share my experience and recommendations for this technique:
- The Content – If you want to achieve any results using article marketing, make sure all the content you plan to distribute is unique and written in fluent English language. If you use duplicated content or poorly written one, you are not likely to pass any of the editorial reviews at the targeted websites. Furthermore, at some point, when Google detects all the duplicated content you risk penalty.
- Link Placements – In order to pass editorial review, you should place no more than 2 links within your content. However, if you have no such limitations, remember that if you place more links in a small amount of content, you are likely to cause more damage than good. I highly recommend placing your links in your author bio, since you will avoid getting in troubles with the content editors.
- Distribution Options – Although, there are a lot of article directories and web 2.0 websites that will be accept your content, I strongly recommend choosing only the best available out there. With the Panda update many websites are removed from the top positions of the Google SERPs and they do not get any traffic at all. A good practice when choosing distribution websites is to order them by domain authority and choose only those that have higher than 50. That way you will make sure that your website gets links only from quality websites.
These are my main tips for executing an article marketing strategy and I have to say that according to my tests this technique works pretty well.
If you manage to distribute unique content to multiple quality websites, you will easily boost your website’s rankings for sure. However, I strongly recommend avoid all kinds of shady tactics such as content spinning, since they are likely to harm your website’s performance.
