Which Hosting Package Should I Use?

If you are looking to set up a website, then you will need a web hosting package. Whether you are starting up a small online business, info portal, blog, or anything else, a web hosting service allows you to make your website visible to everyone else connected to the Internet. What is hosting? Establishing a website works by setting up an account with a web host, who will provide you with server space owned by a given client. Servers are the backbone of the Internet. They are responsible for all Internet data storage and transfer, and are used for activities of all sizes and scopes, from sending an email and using free web page hosting, to operating a major global eCommerce website. One of the best things about web hosting is the amount of space and tools you get for a comparatively small price. For a modest monthly price, you can often get very large or unlimited web space, and multiple domain names to utilize, with many now supporting cloud hosting. The types of hosting The major question that most people setting up an online business ask, is what web hosting package is right for them. Depending on how much service...

Let's Explain Web Hosting [Video]

I thought I'd share this fun cut-out animation video that we made which helps explain the differences between the 3 major types of web hosting. One thing we are constantly hearing from out customers is how they really don't understand the differences between shared, vps, and dedicated web hosting. In the video, we compare different types of web hosting to different types of housing. I think it works nicely and answers the question; "Where does your website live?" The video is based on our popular infographic that we turned into this animatic. The challenge was to explain all about web hosting, using no-tech solutions to not alienate our customers. I think the video suits many purposes even for those using it to explain the web-hosting world to newbies, clients, or simply for web developers to have a tongue-in-cheek laugh. Hope you enjoy, here's the Youtube video: https://youtu.be/n7rzi2hGAzA Web Hosting Specialist Juliana produced this video for InMotion Hosting - A web hosting company specializing in VPS servers based in Los Angeles. Please direct any questions to her Twitter @JulianaPayson where she'll be happy to explain it all in more detail, or you can check out more of her expert tips here: https://www.inmotionhosting.com/blog/author/juliana/

Why Web Hosts Should Use Computerized Maintenance Management System?

Many web hosts are considering setting up CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) but aren’t sure whether they can use it at its fullest. All maintenance managers in web hosting companies would agree that CMMS can make their life easier as they can keep track of maintenance to be performed. However, is it enough to convince executives in your web host to make the necessary investment? These are reasons why you should use CMMS in your web host, which may contain a few things you haven’t yet considered. Less downtime: Proper implementation of CMMS allows web hosts to reduce downtime significantly through much improved scheduling and planning. By determining likely reasons for failures, staffs can take preventive measures to reduce possible downtime. CMMS can also plan maintenance during off-shift hours to further reduce downtimes. As more maintenances tasks are planned than responsive, they can be performed with minimal disruption. Longer equipment life: Establishing recurring preventive maintenance tasks can help improve the equipment life. The asset management software is designed to track and define the lifecycle of your assets at various levels to determine performance trends and take necessary actions. Select CMMS platforms include condition data such as vibration and temperature readings to...

Your Start Ups Success is Dependent on Your Web Host's Quality

With so many people starting their own start ups and trying to go the life of the entrepreneur—which I am a huge fan of—understanding what sorts of services they'll need to be successful is really important. One of those things—and if it is an Internet company, the most important thing—is the web hosting you use. The web hosting is what makes it possible for your website to be reached on the Internet. Companies such as Yahoo and Midphase provide web hosting for people and in many cases, they are great ones. But, even if you don't go with them, there are things that you need to look for to really ensure that you're getting the right web host. To better appreciate and understand what you need in a web host, it is important to know the "specs" of web hosting. You're going to hear terms such as CPU, Bandwidth and Disk Space. You're going to be bombarded with offers of "unlimited bandwidth." You're going to see offers for $1.99 web hosting. That's great, but it's limiting and deceiving. First things first. There is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. No server can just handle an unlimited amount of anything. It's because...
