The Good, The Bad and Ugly PHP

Every PHP developer remember the nightmare of PHP4, almost every feature, function and framework was broken to some extends. Actually the whole language and especially OOP looked like a complete joke. I remember an article in late 1999 at PC Magazine, a comparison of server-side languages, of course in this comparison article PHP was holding the last place for obvious reasons. In the last few years, there were so many jokes related to PHP that it is difficult to count. Though in the meantime attention of most developers was related to Ruby, Python, HTML5 and countless JS libraries. The truth is that until recently there wasn't any elegant solution that can solve a simple problem with PHP, but... Old dog continues to evolve “A good PHP developer”, was simply oxymoron, but as a matter of fact, everybody was looking for PHP developer and the language popularity continue to grow. Secure Your Joomla Website with These Essential Tips

Joomla is fast becoming one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) with millions of Joomla websites on the web and more getting built every day. Due to this reason, Joomla developers are unable to provide support for very single website on this platform every day. But the increase in popular of Joomla also means that more hackers are now using the site.    In this post we are going to show you through a thorough 9-point security check list you must make to secure your Joomla site from hackers. If you are familiar with WordPress, then you will no doubt notice a number of similarities in the security points between these two popular content management systems. As promised, here is the check list: 1. Choose a good hosting service: Good hosting is vital for Joomla security. While shared hosting may be okay, your website will be left vulnerable when other websites hosted on the same server get attacked. There are many small Joomla hosting companies offering a variety of hosting plans for Joomla website owners. Alternatively, you should go for servers specifically set up to host Joomla websites but with only a few sites hosted on each server. 2. Update...

As it is listed in Joomla development strategy new release of Joomla is just behind the corner. I've spend the weekend testing Joomla 3.3.0 DEV edition and I have to admit that I am very impressed. Hands on Preview Joomla 3.3.0 Before I start with the preview teaser, have to mention that last week Joomla team officially announced changes in Joomla Framework license from GPL to LGPG, this might not matter at all for users, but certainly is a step in the right direction in terms of development. No let's talk about Joomla 3.3.0 core... There are several major improvements, that put Joomla 3.3.0 on the top of innovation ahead top open source competitors: Improved Microdata Formats Thumbnails Reviews Ratings Improved SEO capabilities MooTools replaced by jQuery – this step was expected earlier, without a doubt there are more things that can be done with lighter jQuery than heavier Mootools. Hands-on Preview: Drupal 8

So many web developers are excited about next version of Drupal, in this case Drupal 8. Drupal 7 had long live as long term support version. My opinion was a step back from Drupal 6 - very similar to one of the most powerful programing language (Python), a lot of modules were not compatible with previous version or were discontinued. Recently we've written Drupal 7 review and listed some of the downsides, but let's see what v8 is going to offer. Now before we start looking at whats new, probably we should take a look on migration options. I've read some positive improvements in this direction. Many trusted blogs claimed that upgrading to Drupal 8 from 7 would be an easy process, though I have to admit that I haven't test this personally. I will keep this preview short as v8 already started making titles in the news and there are a lot of resources, including list of features and improvements on official website: https://drupal.org/drupal-8.0 . Drupal 8 Features and Improvements Authoring A long awaited WYSYWYG is here. Drupal 8 comes with inbuilt CKEditor WYSIWYG editor. In-place editing of content without having to use the full edit form, as well as...
