What to Do and Not To Do While Designing a Website

The only thing constant in the field of web design is the Change. In fact, the only way to survive in this cut throat designing industry is by learning the art of unlearning. Remember the concept of Flash Intro which was quite popular just a few years ago? Now, people hate the idea. The concept of web design has evolved around the idea of making the website faster.

Lately, the concept of web designing has become immensely complex as designers have to use PHP, CSS3, HTML 5, jQuery and other languages to develop an interactive website. Therefore, it is quite obvious that some designers might feel overwhelmed at times. Since there is no hard and fast rules when it comes to web designing, things might go out of hand. If you are one of those wannabe designers struggling with different aspects of web designing, this article is meant for you –

Don't Use Too Many Images

Just because you have come across some nice images on the web, you should not be using all of them on a particular web design project. Images are double edges sword. Relevant and high quality images can help you spruce up the look and feel of the design but use of irrelevant images can seriously damage your online reputation and can even send wrong signals to targeted audience.

Make it Load Fast

You need to make sure that the website is getting loaded fast. If your website takes more than 5 seconds to get loaded, half of the visitors might bounce back. Don't stuff the web page with unnecessary or junk codes and try not to use too many graphics on the website as this would make the web page extremely heavy.

Keep Things Simple

There is no need to use overtly complex graphics on your website. The body copy needs to be simple and easily understandable. Don't use complex jargons as most people are not used to them. You need to make sure that the body copy is simple yet catchy. Use bullet points and sub headings to highlight important sections of the body copy.

Use External Style Sheet

You need to make sure that you are not using inline codes excessively. Use of inline code will only contribute negatively to its loading time. So, you need to have separate files for JavaScript, CSS or any other script. Apart from helping the website to load faster, it will help you code easily and effortlessly.

Mobile friendliness

People these days are switching from one devices to another and that means, you need to focus more on making the website mobile friendly. Some designers are these days embracing the idea of Mobile First. Whatever approach you are going to embrace, you will need to make sure that your website rendering precisely on all possible mobile browsers and platform without facing a single glitch. Leading website builders like MotoCMS in its latest release – MotoCMS 3.0 has embraced this concept and now all its templates are responsive and mobile friendly.

Test The Design

You should not be making the website live without testing it. It would be better if you can find another guy who has some eye fork details for this job. You might have no idea how many errors your website might contain that you have so conveniently ignored. But don't be alarmed because these are common mistakes and which is why you need to get the website tested to ensure that it is good to go live.

Don't forget Conversion
Since you are a new aged website designer, you will have to make sure that the design is customers friendly and conversion oriented. By conversion oriented means, the design has to be intuitive and simple. The navigation should be users friendly and Call to Action texts and buttons are placed on prominently places.

So, try to follow the aforementioned tips and the outcome of your next designing project will not be disappointing.
