How Smart Bloggers Engage Their Readership

Type - Print - Forget... that may work for some writers, but for a writer who wants to engage his or her readers, the steps for promoting a story should foster a community, response, loyalty and bring people together. You might also want to check "How to Start Blogging".

Seek Out Your Readership - Going where your readers are is easier than ever with social networking sites. Make sure readers can “like” you on facebook, and encourage some +1s, tweets and comments on your bogs. You should also offer an RSS feed to really solidify your writer-reader connection.

Make yourself accessible and easy to connect to. Comments see a real boost when you’re willing to reply to your readers (timely, too). If you’re up for it, consider integrating chat to your blog.

Involve Your Readers - Now that you’ve found your readers, don’t let them get away. Featuring your readers can be as easy as allowing and encouraging comments, but the most effective options include actually “featuring” a reader. Welcome a newbie, reward a loyalist or create a contest that allows your readers to vie for your attention!

If you’re still looking to build your readership, make it easy to share your story with a friend via email or social media.

Create A Call To Action - When you invite your readers to respond, don’t just ask for comments or expect a response. Create a call to action that speaks to your readers on a personal level. Ask a direct question versus the more general “please leave a comment.” And hopefully it goes without saying that your question should be open-ended and encourage a meaningful response. If your call to action can be answered with a yes or no, then you may get exactly such one-word comments.

For example, if your blog entry includes sharing your favorite cookie recipe ask your readers for their favorite cookie recipe in return for a chance to be featured in an upcoming post. Or you could ask what recipe they would like to see featured next, or do your readers have suggestions for alternative ingredients and spins on the recipe?

Keep It Fresh - Are you keeping your readers waiting for your next great piece? While you don’t want to rush to publish just for the sake of publishing, you do want to keep up the momentum of your community of readers. New content maintains a reader’s involvement in your saga.

Another part of being fresh, means promoting your articles in new and different ways. If you promote each and every blog entry the same way, you run the risk that your writings will start to feel like any other daily dose of information.

You can’t know each of your readers on a personal level, but you can create inclusion and foster engaged readership by writing in a way that allows people to know you, relate to you, reach out to you and even share and promote your writing among their social circles. By working to engage your readers, you are really putting your readers to work promoting you.

Good content keeps readers engaged. Take advantage of Grammarly grammar checker and put your best articles forward.

Blogging makes us feel good whenever we want to express our thoughts and our feelings. The problem is sometimes our post is just rants and the proper rules in writing beautifully is not neglected. If we don't want to change our wrong ways in writing blogs then I think we should just blog for ourselves for the sake of venting out our feeling but not in making our blogs famous for something.
