Autoresponders

Autoresponders
If your business does a lot with email correspondence of any type, something you might want to think about is getting an autoresponder program or service of some sort.  The principle behind autoresponders is that you only have to write something once, then you can attach it to a predetermined database of emails and have them all go out at once.  There are many reasons why someone would want to use an autoresponder.  Of course we mentioned the first one, being to send a bunch of emails out to someone at once.  The reason an autoresponder is good for this, especially if you use a service, is that autoresponder services have already been added any spam blocker that's out there.  They require a double opt-in check for anyone who wants to sign up to receive what you have to offer, and all of it can happen while you're not around. That brings up reason number two.  If you happen to write a periodic email newsletter, new subscribers can request it at any time without your being around to have to add them to your list.  Once the person verifies that they want it, your autoresponder will send them your latest missive automatically.Reason...

LinkShare Review

LinkShare Review
Linkshare is one of the fastest growing affiliate programs on the internet.  They have a lot of big name companies that participate with them, and they seem to be the provider of choice if a company leaves one of the other affiliate programs. When I first signed up with them they didn't have a lot of advertisers. Probably the biggest name they had initially was Skymall, which are the people that have the magazines on airlines with all the cool stuff. Now they boast companies such as Barnes & Noble, Microsoft Store, Buy.com and Fiji Water. They offer advertisers in almost any realm you might search for including airlines, hotels, gifts, jewelry and all sorts of other items. The only problem I have if I have to compare them with Commission Junction is that there's no template associated with them. In other words, you'll have to figure out how you want your advertisements to show. However, most of their advertisers will pay you at a rate that competes well with CJ. However, as full disclosure, I've yet to make enough money to tell you how easy it is to get paid. I can say that I've been credited with every sale...

CSS In 24 Hours

CSS In 24 Hours

CSS in 24 Hours icon is a book by Kynn Bartlett that helps anyone that needs to learn how to do cascading stylesheets to pick up the basics in a very short period of time. A book that's almost 450 pages might not seem like it'd be the type to help you learn it in 24 hours, and truthfully it might take some people a little bit longer, but I pretty much learned the basics within a few hours.

HostMonster Review

HostMonster Review
HostMonster is a hosting company that offers shared hosting at a price slightly above what many other hosting companies will offer, although at the present time there offering a special deal at $5.95. They used to be fairly highly recommended, but lately seem to have fallen out of favor with many people who are reviewing the company and filing complaints. Where the problem seems to be is that within the last couple of months they've had some serious downtime. And instead of moving some of their accounts over to other servers so that it would be business as usual, not only were the websites of many of their customers down but their own website was down as they put out their own message saying they were having difficulties. That's not the type of thing that engenders a lot of trust and confidence in a major hosting company, and it's not known if this newly priced deal is the result of that or if a price reduction had already been planned. With that said we have to add that they do offer a lot of amenities. For the cost you get unlimited web hosting space, unlimited gigabytes of site transfer, unlimited email autoresponders...

Unmarketing by Scott Stratton

Unmarketing by Scott Stratton
Unmarketing by Scott Stratton is an intriguing book that gives people a different look at how to market their businesses. I've known about Scott for a long time, having first encountered him on Ryze many years ago. He has always had a unique perspective for how businesses should think about marketing themselves that goes against the grain. He has had some great successes and in this particular book he tells stories of both successes and near misses.I was especially intrigued by one story he tells where his idea for a new restaurant in his area was to have one night where they invited many guests within the area to come for a free meal. The people for the restaurant thought that was a horrible idea because in their minds they would be losing a lot of money. They decided to go a different way and unfortunately the restaurant didn't survive, although Stratton says he doesn't know if it's because they didn't give his idea a shot or not. The reason it's intriguing is because on TV these days there are other shows where one sees other consultants offering this same type of marketing advice and both restaurants and stores find themselves...

BlueHost Review

BlueHost Review
Bluehost is another shared hosting company that offers a great deal on hosting costs. Instead of offering multiple packages, they offer one straight package at the price of $6.95, although they're running a deal in September 2011 for $5.95 a month hosting. Most people who rank Bluehost love the features, and it's hard not to love those. They offer unlimited domain hosting, unlimited hosting space, unlimited file transfer and unlimited e-mail accounts. They offer tools to help you build a website if you don't know HTML skills, as well as a blog with multiple platform choices including Wordpress and Drupal. They offer the standard cPanel that a lot of people like. And they offer $75 to get you started on Google Adwords. Those are pretty big deals. The downsides depend on what you feel your needs are. Some people complain about bad customer service while others love it. Some people complain that they offer some of their services only to U.S. and Canadian consumers. Some people feel their hosting price is still too high, even with all the extras; personally I think the price is fair. And even though they guarantee 99% uptime, some people have said that when there are problems...

Commission Junction Review

Commission Junction Review
CJ (Commission Junction) is probably one of the biggest affiliate programs on the internet. They have over 2,400 advertisers that offers a host of options you can select from if you get approved by the company, and it can greatly enhance your marketing. But it's not perfect; let's take a look at them. When you create your account they'll ask you what domain name is the main one you wish to use for them.  They'll take a look at it and you'll be approved based on that, so make sure it's a good and legitimate domain.  After that you can start going through the list of advertisers they have based on type of product you want to promote or just looking through its list in the order they give it to you, which I believe is the order they've signed up advertisers or the amount of money these advertisers will pay you for sales; I've never been able to quite figure it out. With most of the advertisers you have the option of selecting either links or products.  When you select links, if you end up having multiple websites approved later on you'll want to make sure you select the right...

1and1 Hosting Review

1and1 Hosting Review
1and1 is one of the largest shared hosting companies in the world. They're also one of the most controversial. In a comparison with large hosting companies, they're usually ranked nearer to the bottom of the heap than the top. Is it justified? This is my hosting company. I have used them for 5 years, even since my previous host had all their servers crash on the same day and I had to find someone else to go to. It costs me $6.99 a month for my package, which has to be paid every six months. That's their middle level, and what it gets me is unlimited webspace and traffic, 1 free domain (which you'll probably find useless based on how they give it to you), 25 MySQL databases, and I can create up to 500 email accounts, each one up to 2GB of space. They also offer either Microsoft or Linux packages. In the five years I've used them, I've only had two problems. One, which was irritating, kept me from being able to consistently access my websites for about 3 weeks. The other was having my email being considered as spam by my home ISP. The first issue was a...
