My Life is My Work! Interview with Phil Turner

My Life is My Work! Interview with Phil Turner
I am happy to Introduce Phil Turner to the readers of WebmaisterPro. Well-known successful online entrepreneur, valued member of our social network, a person who can always share some very useful tips. Phil, would you introduce yourself with few sentences? Hi, I’m an English guy, an ex-teacher, who has ideas by the ton. I am an optimist and like to believe that most people are basically good. What drives your creativity? I believe we have duties to humanity regarding knowledge. We have to learn as much as we can handle and we have to pass that on before we die to as many people as possible. Each person has a unique body of knowledge built up from their unique set of life experiences. The human race benefits from that knowledge and advances, but you need to pass it on or the knowledge dies with you. What’s more, you have to pass it on to at least one person who will pass it on before they die, too. The only way to increase the probability of your knowledge continuing forever is to pass it on to hundreds of thousands of people, so that a few of them will incorporate your knowledge into their...

New POS Tech Makes Starting a New Business Easy

New POS Tech Makes Starting a New Business Easy
Five years ago, your small business might not have been able to get off the ground before you raised thousands of dollars to buy a point-of-sale system. But now, the POS landscape is finally changing, and small business owners are the ones who win out. The development of cloud-based technology has been cutting down significantly on hardware and software costs, and new start-ups appear every day with the intention to woo small business owners with their new POS solutions. Because of the high rate of competition, many of the services are cheaper than ever. With these new services, entrepreneurs can instantly access services and tools that would have cost tens of thousands of dollars only a few years ago. Now you can buy them all for monthly subscription fees that are practically negligible. Advances in technology have made it easy for anyone with a hobby or a dream to start a side business or even a career, usually for a very small start-up cost. Our goal is to help people find the right local service and help businesses get more sales leads. At how many companies you are involved at the moment? I'm focused 100% on ServiceCrowd, but we have a few side projects that tie back into the main service. For example I've just recently started a website called CrowdPress (https://crowdpress.com.au/) where the content is focused on curating new and exciting material from great organisations. The purpose is to build up a following based on interests. Our main website's content (https://servicecrowd.com.au) tends to focus much more on guides for buyers which is very specific and usually not very buzz worthy. I'm also about to launch something called ServiceCrowd Ask. Since we have lots of experts that offer services, we are creating a way for people to submit questions online...

Clear Skies: How Cloud Computing Helps the Environment

Clear Skies: How Cloud Computing Helps the Environment
Lots of people these days are doing their part to live a “greener” lifestyle. There’s certainly an effort to use more sustainable forms of energy as a way to protect the environment, and businesses in general are no different. It just so happens that taking more environmentally friendly measures also leads to cost savings in the long run. Perhaps one of the most impactful and promising ways companies are protecting the environment is through the widespread adoption of cloud computing. Whether intentional or not, cloud computing has the potential to really cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and help the planet out in multiple ways. And for those businesses without an environmental focus, saving some money doesn’t sound like a bad idea either. Numerous studies have been conducted in recent years that take a look at the impact cloud computing has on the environment. One study done by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory along with Northwestern University is perhaps the most cited about the subject. In the study, researchers looked at the effects of moving fairly common business applications like email, CRM software, and productivity software like spreadsheets and word processing to the cloud. The results are striking. If all businesses...

Drug War Violence Results in Mobile Safety Network for Alerts

Drug War Violence Results in Mobile Safety Network for Alerts
Officially, the Mexican Drug War has been ongoing since December 2006 when the Mexican military became involved, but unofficially it has lasted longer. For innocent bystanders, mobile technology has been a way for people to avoid gunfire in their communities and identify "risk situations" (situaciónes de riesgo) through social media rather than local authorities and new media, who often remain silent on these issues. While online communities functioning as civilian alert systems aren't unique to Mexico, they are invaluable in situations where violence erupts among rival drug cartels. Experts say it can also help people feel less alone during these dangerous times. On the night of June 5, residents of Altamira and Tampico, in Tamaulipas state, began reporting their encounters with nearby armed groups over social media platforms, such as Twitter, hashtagging #SDR for situación de riesgo. The entire incident ended with five casualties, one of whom was a local leader of a criminal group, and several cargo trucks on fire. Government policy concerning criminal activity is to not name specific groups in the media, according to Mexico's Interior Ministry after asked for information on another incident in late June that resulted in the deaths of 22 gang members.Yet many in the area were unable...

Dot-Com Bubble Burst? Probably Soon!

Dot-Com Bubble Burst? Probably Soon!
Many young web professionals and blogger, does not remember the time of Dot-com boom. I personally started with Internet marketing right after “dot-com boom” in 1999, just 2 years before the “dot-com bubble” burst. Dot-Com Before and Now Well, I don't think that there are many similarities with dot-com bubble in 2001 and right now. Mainly the problem at that time was related to stock dropping, due to fact that stock market around dot-com companies simply went deep into the ocean, there were insane investments before and now, probably the only similarity. Nowadays a lot of money are going again through venture capitals, angel investments and crowdfunding into Internet business. Digits (yeah digits, there are not so many printed money and gold) are looking more like “international phone numbers” that to real money. Knowing how production economy is suffering and knowing how non-producing - “services” and “entertainment” businesses grow in comparison, make it easy to think that time for 2nd “dot-com boom” will produce “big bang”. Time and Reasons for Burst The time is coming and most likely it will happen at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015. There are many good reasons for this. Don't take my words...

Decay of Webmaster Forums! Ghosts, Trolls and SPAM

Decay of Webmaster Forums! Ghosts, Trolls and SPAM
For a very long time, I avoid visiting webmaster forums or online marketing forums. There are many reasons behind this, but in this article I will point one major problem that I've mentioned in previous posts. Everybody is aware of Google and Matt Cutts statement - “Decay of Guest Blogging”, but there is another thing that should be mentioned! Decay of Webmaster Forums It is not usual to write only negative about particular topic, but this time, I simply couldn't find a single positive point to emphasize. It seems that it is a “wave” or a trend that match some ideas of entropy and that everything is going into chaos. In particular webmaster forums seems to suffer in terms of quality. Lack of Serious Topics and Questions Nothing new about it, in the last 4-5 years barely can find any serious discussion at any of the top online marketing forums. Nor can find a question to answer. It seems that only questions that reappear again and again are “What is SEO”, “What is HTML”, “What is email marketing”, “What is link building”, “What is the best CMS”, etc... These are not questions, but whole branches of webmaster related issues.... Well, certainly...

Best Web Design Tips for Gaming Sites

Best Web Design Tips for Gaming Sites
Whether you’re a gamer yourself or you’re thinking about starting your own gaming site, it’s important to know about aesthetic best practices for web design. Understanding what’s painful to the senses (such as the eyes and ears) can help you choose the best site to play, or lure in more customers if you’re running it. There are a lot of outdated practices and elementary errors when people choose themes and add on a little pomp and circumstance. Are you in danger of committing one of these taste crimes? It starts with understanding your target demographics and working the design around them. For instance, if you operate an online casino with table games, that’s going to draw a different crowd from the one you’ll attract if you offer fun, light, Angry Bird-esque games geared to all ages. Some ages and communities enjoy movement, flash, and music more than others, but it’s always a good idea to play it safe. Here’s how. Keep it simple This principle is true for every type of website. Game websites have a tendency to overwhelm. Your target market might be skilled at seeing through the noise, but that doesn’t mean they want to be attacked as soon...
