Advantages And Disadvantages Of Shared And VPS Hosting

Two of the most common hosting plans are shared hosting and VPS (virtual private server) hosting. They are a popular choice especially among first time users and can be the right choice for you depending on your specific needs. Here is a look at the advantages and disadvantages of both of these systems. What Is Shared Hosting? Shared hosting is a system where one single server is divided among various users. This means that you do get your own disk space and database but the performance resources, such as RAM and bandwidth, are shared. What Is VPS Hosting? VPS on the other hand means that a server is divided into smaller private servers and thus each account is allocated their own server. This also means that all the performance resources, such as RAM and bandwidth, aren’t shared with other users. VPS hosting also provides you with a bigger disc space than shared hosting. The Disadvantages And Advantages Of Shared Hosting Perhaps the biggest advantage of shared hosting is the fact that it is the least expensive hosting plan available. Thus it is often a very good choice for first time users and can be enough for users who are only running...

Which Web Hosting Is The Right One For You?

Web hosting is when a server hosts a particular website to make it accessible to those surfing the internet. Everyone with a website needs some form of web hosting. This is because without a server it is impossible to access a website. A website designer could create a site but without a host this site would be worthless. In other words, everyone needs web hosting but the type of hosting needed varies depending upon the needs of the site. Free Web Hosting Free web hosting is available and it may seem like a great option. However, there are some serious drawbacks to this choice. Free hosting means that advertisements such as banners or even pop-up ads may be on the website. The creator generally has no choice as to what types of ads appear. There are some free hosting options that are better than others but all-around this is not the ideal choice for someone who is serious about uploading a website to a valid server with a good reputation. Paid Web Hosting There are many different paid web hosting servers. These servers generally come with a lot more extras than the free options. For example, they may provide e-mail addresses,...

Let's Explain Web Hosting [Video]

I thought I'd share this fun cut-out animation video that we made which helps explain the differences between the 3 major types of web hosting. One thing we are constantly hearing from out customers is how they really don't understand the differences between shared, vps, and dedicated web hosting. In the video, we compare different types of web hosting to different types of housing. I think it works nicely and answers the question; "Where does your website live?" The video is based on our popular infographic that we turned into this animatic. The challenge was to explain all about web hosting, using no-tech solutions to not alienate our customers. I think the video suits many purposes even for those using it to explain the web-hosting world to newbies, clients, or simply for web developers to have a tongue-in-cheek laugh. Hope you enjoy, here's the Youtube video: https://youtu.be/n7rzi2hGAzA Web Hosting Specialist Juliana produced this video for InMotion Hosting - A web hosting company specializing in VPS servers based in Los Angeles. Please direct any questions to her Twitter @JulianaPayson where she'll be happy to explain it all in more detail, or you can check out more of her expert tips here: https://www.inmotionhosting.com/blog/author/juliana/

Why Every Business Needs A VPS

What is a VPS? Virtual private server (VPS) technology has been around for a few years now and has proven itself as the best web and application hosting platform for small and medium-size businesses. While a VPS looks like a dedicated server to its user, it is in fact serving multiple clients at the same time, all of which have their own "private" server on the same hardware.   The advantages of VPS technology are many fold. First, a VPS carries all of the benefits of a dedicated server. This includes the ability for businesses to choose their own operating system and web server software. They can also have total control over what applications they run on the server and how they run them.   How reliable is VPS? As with a co-located private server, a VPS usually sits in a data center with multiple connections to the internet, generator back up power, and physical security to ensure that it, and the companies depending on it, stays available at all times. Most modern microprocessor chips are designed to support "virtualization" in their hardware, making them very good at keeping separate virtual machines apart from each other. While in a traditional shared...

VPS Hosting For Dummies - What Is CPanel VPS Hosting?

cPanel VPS hosting is the use of a single partitioned server to behave as if it were many servers.  These virtual machines act the same as several physical computers – except that they are actually all contained in 1 single server. cPanel, derived from “control panel”, is an interface system that allows one to easily monitor and adjust the settings of a VPS, or Virtual Private Server. Indeed, the cPanel interface is specifically designed to meet the needs of the administrator and to make the job easier.  Combining the CPanel interface with a VPS hosting system can greatly increase the efficiency and ease of running websites. CPanel VPS Hosting - What is "VPS Hosting?" VPS Hosting, or Virtual Private Server Hosting, is basically the use of an outside server to store and protect your work.  These servers are usually kept in cooled and isolated rooms designed to protect them from weather, people and power outages.  cPanel makes it possible to access and even change the information within a server through any outside device so long as it is connected to the internet.  One has the ability to access their server using a Mac, Linux or Windows operating system as long as...
